Helmut’s Story

Born in Austria, I was lucky to grow up in what could easily be the most beautiful country in the world.

My parents had the incredible gift or knowledge to tell me what to do but making me loving what I do and never forcing me into anything such as profession, or which girl I can date etc.

While being in machine engineering school, I started to get the desire to see the world.

So, after graduating from engineering school and having completed the mandatory army training (as a red cross person, something which helped me saving lives on the road when passing by a car accident years later.)

I never returned to the engineering field, but started working as a waiter in some of the most wonderful Austrian resort places.

From Austria, I ventured into all parts of Switzerland, England, Germany, France, Italy and the last two years before coming to America I worked in a country called Togo in West Africa.

Once I arrived in America I felt quite home and had no desire to “move on” as I did in other countries despite the fact that I loved them all.

It was here in the USA that I went the first time into business on my own, as a restaurant owner and also as a real-estate investor fixing up rundown houses ( my engineering training came real handy.)

I found Scientology by arranging a Sea Organization day while being catering manager at Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel.

It looks like that the Sea Org members who arranged this Sea Org day took a liking to me and invited me to look over the kitchen at the Los Angeles Pacific Base complex (where they feed a thousand staff 3 times a day) for some advices.

They actually execute all my suggestions within very short time, and talked me into helping with the restaurant at the Manor Hotel which was in shambles and had even no name.

Giving the restaurant the name “Renaissance” was one of my first action and establishing a real restaurant with outside catering to the Scientology celebrities was then my next action and quite some fun.

All the above happened while NOT being a Scientologist, but hanging out at the Manor Hotel 24/7 got me interested in Scientology.

(This is a method of recruiting which L Ron Hubbard had talked about that will inevitably lead into people becoming Scientologists without trying.)

As soon as I decided to engage in Scientology, I set out to be an auditor and was Class V and OEC trained. (Class V is a trained counselor about the mind and is somebody who can clear another person. OEC stands for Organization Executive Course which means to be trained in administration of a business or organization) before having had any professional auditing even the Purification Rundown ( a detoxification program and also an entry level step in Scientology services.)

It was on course at ASHO that I met my wife Hellen Chen as I listened to her great win on the Student Hat and as she asked the course sup why I never coach her in the course room.

You see, she believed I was a staff member in the church whose job is coaching people –because I was always coaching someone in the course room.

Boy I love coaching as I still believe this is how I learned the most!

In any case, Hellen, even though only in SCN a year or so, like myself, was already bringing people into Scientology, and even though I had not looked at me being someone who promoted Scientology, I realized that I had supplied not only for myself, but the whole course room with people for our student auditing (counseling).

I by the way asked Hellen to marry me on our very first date and it was the very best decision I ever made.

The rest is history.

Hellen and I loved dissemination, here in the USA, Taiwan, India and we have gotten high on life itself ever since.

But I have to tell you, that after leaving the church but keeping doing what we have always done, Hellen and I realized that we seem to have lost some of that livingness – as how otherwise could we have a resurgence of livingness?

The future never looked as bright as it currently does.
